Eateries could serve house-made beers with SmartBrew

SmartBrew aspires to make it easier than ever for restaurateurs to offer their thirsty patrons fresh, house-made beers. In the process, it could reignite the largely stagnant brewery-­restaurant business model that energized the first wave of the American craft beer revival in the 1990s.

The SmartBrew system recently made its first appearance in New England, indeed only its third in America, at upstart Greasy Luck Brewery, a 6-week-old pub and restaurant in New Bedford.

“The innovation of the SmartBrew system got me interested in the product and the beer we make with it is just outstanding,” said Greasy Luck owner Christian Farland. “The economics and the business model works in our favor, too.”

The sparkling stainless system requires just 180 square feet of space and can crank out up to 80 half-barrels of beer each month. And when seen through storefront windows, as it is at Greasy Luck, it makes for eye-catching curb appeal.

Yes - now we're just bragging. This represents our 19th award in only 8 competitions. And again - these awards are indicative of the beers you'll be brewing and serving at your establishment.


The World Beer Awards are the global awards selecting the very best internationally recognized beer styles. This annual tasting selects, awards and promotes the 'World's Best Beers' to consumers and the trade throughout the world. Entrants are tasted blind and marked to an agreed and strictly enforced marking system. As well as aroma, flavour, appearance/condition, mouthfeel and finish the judges will look for beer with balance, character, complexity and quality. 


The annual competition features thousands of beers from around the world, with regional heats of blind tastings taking place in various countries in Europe, Asia and The Americas, followed by a final tasting of style winners from each region to select the World’s Best.


Long White Cloud Saison was described by the judging panel as “Hazy gold colour. Herbal hops and honey on the nose and in flavour. Refreshing and bitter finish.”

Two More International Medals!

Winning bronze for both a session pale ale and black IPA, this brings our medal total to a whopping 17 after entering only 7 competitions. This training guide and reference manual, created by the Brewpubs Committee, is intended to be used over and over and it will act as a great resource to help you elevate your brand, traffic, and sales.


It’s a resource that shows brewpub owners, managers and trainers how to pass along content, training and concepts to staff. The approaches suggested in the manual are based upon successful programs and the experience of those providing input for the creation of the manual.

NRA and BAR Shows in Chicago Prove to Be Simply Remarkable!

Two More Medals at Australian Beer Awards!

The SmartBrew® Team is thrilled to announce that we have added a couple more medals to our continually expanding collection of accolades from International Beer Competitions.  Our most recent acknowledgement of superior product comes in the form of two bronze medals for our HoneyWeizen and Black IPA beers, which were submitted through our Long White Cloud brand of beers which are available to all of our operators as of today.

“A boutique brewer is bubbling over with pride after winning a trio of top awards.The King Country Brewing Company, established in the once dry Waitomo village about two years ago, won a silver medal a best in class at this year's International Beer Cup in Yokohama, Japan, for its new batch of pale ale. The fruity brew also scored a bronze medal at the Brewers Guild of New Zealand awards in Auckland.The wins follow the company's $200,000 upgrade of its brewing equipment at the back of the village's popular Curly's Bar.

“The first beers that we put on tap, we were running out of within 10 days,” said Lechlitner. To start, Cecil’s is brewing a lager, light lager, amber ale, Belgian wheat and IPA. In the future, Lechlitner plans on creating specialty beers to take over more of its 19 taps, which still feature domestic and imports.


“Interestingly enough, from the first day we started pouring, we pour more of our beer every day than everything else combined,” he said.

Christchurch, NZ - The New Zealand International Beer Awards is one of the largest and most prestigious beer competitions with more than 850 entries from around the world. We set out several years ago to create a process that would allow venues to brew their own craft beers onsite in 150 square feet. Impressive as that is - allowing operators to brew their own customized brands of fresh craft beer in a  limited space - it simply wasn't good enough for us.

Auction House on the Block

The Auction House (built in 1765) is located directly across from St. Paul’s Anglican Church (built in 1750), which is the oldest building in Halifax.  Converted to a functioning auction house in 1898, this remarkable historic building was considered to be the largest of its kind in the Maritime Provinces. And now?  It's about to become one of the most popular spots for patrons to find fresh, world-class craft beer.  Scheduled for SmartBrew® installation in the next couple of months, this incredible venue is about to see what might become its biggest improvement in about 250 years.

Nook & Cranny Brewing it Right

July, 2015


Customers to the Nook and Cranny will be able to enjoy the craft beer on site, with beer being as fresh as it can get from the tank. Growlers and even grunters will be available, and thanks to the license from the provincial Alcohol and Gaming Division, retail growlers will be available for those wishing to take it home. "That's what I'm really stoked about," said Forsyth, about the possibility of customers taking the product home.


The Nook and Cranny will be working with brewmaster Brian Watson, a New Zealand native who has opened breweries worldwide.
